The bye-laws of the Academy provide for constitution of the following statutory committees for its efficient functioning:
Sectional Committees: The Executive Council shall appoint eight Sectional Committees. The number of members in each Committee shall not exceed ten including the Convener who represents the subject area in the Executive Council. While identifying the members of the Sectional Committees, care should be taken that they represent the spectrum of scientific disciplines of the concerned Committee. The tenure of the Convener and the members will be for a maximum period of 3 years, 1/3rd members will retire every year. There will be a 3 years’ cooling period for the retiring Sectional Committee members. These Sectional Committees deal with various matters pertaining to the disciplines they represent or any other matter referred to them by the Executive Council or any of the office bearers. This includes evaluating and making recommendations on the nominations received for election of Fellows and selection of Associates. The recommendations of these Sectional Committees are put up to the Executive Council for final approval. Names of nine sections and the areas covering under these sections are given below:
I. Crop Sciences
Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Genetic Resources, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Seed Technology.
II. Horticulture Sciences
Fruits, Vegetables, Ornamental Horticulture & landscape gardening, Plantation crops and Spices, Medicinal and Aromatic Crops.
III. Animal Sciences
Animal Genetics and Breeding, Animal Biotechnology, Animal Nutrition, Animal Physiology, Animal Production, Animal Health, Animal Products Technology.
IV. Fisheries Sciences
Fish Genetics and Breeding, Fish Nutrition, Fish Pathology, Fish Biotechnology, Fish Processing and Technology.
V. Natural Resource Management
Agricultural Meteorology, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Forestry and Agroforestry, Soil Sciences and Water Management
VI. Plant Protection
Agricultural Chemicals, Agricultural Entomology, Plant Pathology, Nematology, Microbiology.
VII. Agricultural Engineering and Technology
Farm Machinery and Power, Soil and Water Engineering, Agricultural Process Engineering, Textile Chemistry, Computer Application in Agriculture, Food Technology.
VIII. Social Sciences
Agricultural Economics, Food and Nutrition, Home Science, Agricultural Statistics, Extension Education
This Committee deals with subjects relating to organisational, personnel, finances, and investments. It frames guidelines on these matters including delegation of powers. The recommendations of this Committee are put up to the Executive Council for final approval. It consists of:
