Born in Tripunithura, Ernakulam District, Kerala, India on 5 July 1962. Educated in St. Joseph's Convent & Govt. Sanskrit High School, Tripunithura, 1967-77; Maharaja's College, Ernakulam, 1977-1984; B.Sc. 1982; M.Sc. 1984; Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi, Ph.D. 1991.

Director, Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Cochin, Kerala, 2013 to date.
